Dhaka, June 15 -- Unrelenting downpours are likely across the country starting Sunday with "heavy to very heavy" rains expected for three straight days and waterlogging on the cards in Dhaka and Chattogram in the process, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) have said.

With heatwaves sweeping across parts of the country, the Met Office warned on Saturday that the incessant rainfall is likely to affect large swathes of Chattogram, Barishal, Khulna, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Dhaka, and Rajshahi divisions due to the influence of the southwest monsoon.

As the Bengali month Ashar begins on Sunday, forecasts also warned about potential landslides during this period of excessive rainfall.
