Dhaka, March 5 -- Sheikh Hasina will be put on trial for her crimes against humanity, says Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus.

Although the former prime minister is currently in India, the trials could proceed in absentia if she cannot be brought back to Bangladesh, he said in an interview with Sky News.

Hasina stands accused of ordering the mass killing of protestors in July and August of last year, as well as putting in place a system of enforced disappearances when she was in power. It is alleged her "war on terror" led to the establishment of many secret detention facilities, where anyone who opposed her regime could be tortured or even killed in the name of interrogation.
