Dhaka, Dec. 22 -- Gunmen have been assigned to 20 people, including the editors of Prothom Alo and The Daily Star, following the attacks on the offices of the newspapers, according to Home Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

"The DMP has arrested 17 people in connection with the attacks on the offices of Prothom Alo and Daily Star," Jahangir told reporters on Monday.

"Gunmen have been given for the safety of the editors of the two newspapers and security has been increased at their homes."

He made the remarks after a meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on law and order.

Hadi, convener of Inqilab Moncho, died last Thursday while undergoing treatment in Singapore after being shot by an assailant.
