Dhaka, Feb. 23 -- In a move aimed at tightening oversight of civilian firearms, the government is going to review gun licences issued during the Awami League government, with authorities set to verify the legality and eligibility behind each permit.
On Monday, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said authorities would examine whether the licences were issued following due process.
"We hope to complete this task very quickly," he said after a meeting with heads of departments and agencies under the home ministry.
"After verification, those who are found eligible will retain their licences," the minister said.
