Dhaka, Jan. 31 -- With the parliamentary election and referendum approaching, the Ministry of Railways has ordered authorities to take the highest level of precaution to protect passengers, trains, and railway infrastructure.

The directive, issued on Saturday, emphasised that "self-interested groups may attempt sabotage or create instability around the parliamentary election and referendum".

The ministry noted that public transport, particularly railways, could be targeted in such scenarios.

The election and referendum are scheduled for Feb 12, with nearly 2,000 candidates, including 51 political parties and independents, contesting this year.
