Dhaka, Jan. 10 -- A sharp drop in gas pressure has disrupted supply across Dhaka after a key valve exploded on the distribution line.

Residents in areas including Dhanmondi, Mohammadpur, Shyamoli, New Market, Hazaribagh and Gabtoli are receiving little or no gas supply.

State-run distributor Titas Gas said the problem was caused by the failure of a valve on Mirpur Road, as well as damage to a pipeline running beneath the Turag River.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the company said a four-inch valve on the Mirpur Road distribution line burst unexpectedly, causing a major leak.

To address the situation, several valves were shut temporarily, reducing supply and leading to severe low pressure across the city.
