Dhaka, March 10 -- A garment worker has been killed and another has been injured in a road accident in Dhaka's Banani.

The accident occurred at the Chairman Bari U-Turn in Banani around 6am on Monday.

A protest by their colleages has blocked the capital's Airport Road. The garment workers have also brought traffic to a halt on the Dhaka Elevated Expressway. The blockade has led to heavy congestion on nearby roads.

Sub-Inspector Jewel, duty officer at the Banani Police Station, said a garment worker had been killed on the spot and the road is now blocked.

The road has been blocked since 9am, according to Mofizul Islam, deputy commissioner of the Traffic Gulshan Division. Police are trying to divert the traffic using alternative routes....
