Dhaka, Dec. 26 -- At least four people have been killed after a head-on collision between two passenger launches on the Meghna River in Chandpur amid dense fog.
The collision occurred around 2:30am on Friday in the Harinaghat area of Chandpur Sadar Upazila, when visibility on the river was severely reduced due to thick fog, according to police.
Dhaka District Superintendent of River Police Abdullah Al Mamun, who was at the scene, said that the bodies of one woman and three men had been recovered.
"Many others were rescued with injuries and have been taken to hospital," he said.
The victims have been identified as Abdul Gani, 38, Md Saju, 45, Md Hanif, 60, and Mosammat Rina, 35, all residents of Bhola, according to police.
