Dhaka, Sept. 30 -- Shamsul Alam, former state minister for planning, has been released from Dhaka Central Jail after being granted bail in a case linked to the killing of Jubo Dal leader Shamim Mollah.
Dhaka Central Jail Jailor AKAM Masum confirmed the release.
He said, "He [Shamsul] was freed around 7:30pm on Monday."
The case stems from the violent clashes during a rally in Dhaka called by the BNP on Oct 28, 2023, which escalated tensions and led to the death of Shamim.
Although no charges were brought immediately, the government later lodged a complaint on Sept 24, 2024, after the political situation intensified.
Shamsul was arrested by detectives on Jun 18 this year.
