Dhaka, May 1 -- Former inspector general of police (IGP) Mudabbir Hossain Chowdhury has died.
He was 78, according to the state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).
He passed away at his residence in Dhaka around 5am on Thursday, the Police Headquarters confirmed in a press release.
Born in Shibpasha village under Ajmiriganj Police Station in Habiganj, Mudabbir served as the DIG of the Rajshahi Range and as Police Commissioner of Sylhet.
In 2002, he was appointed as the 17th IGP of Bangladesh Police. He also served as an election commissioner, before retiring as a secretary in 2005.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, and a daughter.
