Dhaka, July 3 -- A Dhaka court has sentenced five people to death for the murder of Delwar Hossain Sardar, a young man from Shariatpur, committed eight years ago.

Judge Mohammad Halim Ullah Chowdhury of Dhaka's Speedy Trial Tribunal No. 4 announced the verdict on Thursday afternoon.

Bench assistant of the concerned court, Mizanur Rahman, said the judge acquitted 12 accused in the case as the charges were not proven.

The convicts are Ismail Sardar, Salmun Sardar, Rezaul Sardar, Jewel Sardar, and Aminul Sardar.

The acquitted are Mujibar Sardar, Fazlul Sardar, A Malek Sardar, Moklesh Sardar, Mahbub Sardar, Tota Sardar, Tipu Sardar, Parcez Sardar, A Salam Sardar, Pavel Sardar, Azizul Haque Sardar, and Parul Begum.
