Dhaka, May 3 -- A fire that broke out at a "jhut", or waste fabric warehouse in Gazipur's Konabari has been brought under control after burning through around 20 small and large jhut storage units and a yarn factory.

The flame was brought under control around 2pm on Saturday following a two-hour effort by six units, said Mohammad Mamun, deputy assistant director of Gazipur Fire Service.

The fire started around 11:45am in the Deuliyabari neighbourhood of Konabari.

"The Konabari Fire Station received the call at 11:50am and two units were dispatched immediately. Firefighters began working to control the flames at 12:05pm," Mamun said.

By the time crews arrived, the fire had already spread across adjacent areas.
