Dhaka, Feb. 2 -- BNP's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has ruled out Jamaat-e-Islami running the state since it opposed Bangladesh's independence in 1971.
Fakhrul, a candidate for the Sheaf of Paddy, addressed voters in Akhanagar Union of Thakurgaon Sadar on Monday.
"I am a freedom fighter, and during the 1971 war, Jamaat opposed independence. I cannot entrust them with the management of the state."
