Dhaka, July 19 -- Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has brushed aside any uncertainty over the national election, reiterating that the voting would take place within the timeframe announced by the chief advisor.

On Thursday, Shafiqul said that the government would ensure an environment conducive to a fair election, while creating a "level playing field" for all.

"It will be a better election than any held in the past," he said after an event hosted by Comilla University at the BARD Auditorium in Moynamoti.

On the proposed proportional representation (PR) system, the press aide said the issue was under serious discussion. "Political parties and the commissions are discussing the matter sincerely."
