Bangladesh, Aug. 29 -- The Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal's candidate for vice-president (VP) Abidul Islam Khan has accused a "group" of running an online smear campaign ahead of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election, saying rivals were "unable to confront us politically".

Speaking to reporters on campus on Friday, Abidul claimed the panel's international affairs secretary's Facebook account had been hacked and there was an attempt to hack the Liberation War and Democratic Movement secretary's account.

As polling nears, he said, "A group is spreading disinformation online after failing to counter us in debate".
