Dhaka, Feb. 3 -- Bangladesh is moving to overhaul its education system with a new draft law that aims to eliminate private tuition and guidebooks in five years.
The proposal outlines stepwise measures to gradually close coaching centres, curb reliance on supplemental notes, and bring an end to both physical and mental punishment of students in schools.
Teachers, however, may exercise reasonable disciplinary measures in the interest of students' welfare and institutional order under the new law.
The Secondary and Higher Education Division published the draft online on Sunday night, inviting feedback via email (opinion_edu_act@moedu.gov.bd) by 5pm on Feb 7.
