Dhaka, Oct. 30 -- In the first half of the 20th century the world witnessed two major wars that brought about cataclysmic changes in the world order. The First World War saw the demise of empires and kingdoms while the Second World War saw rulers cede their authority to the new world order of democracy where people's power would be supreme.

The Second World War paved the way to creation of the United Nations with a charter that promised end to all conflicts ushering in a new era of peace through the use of diplomacy.
