Dhaka, April 28 -- National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Ali Riaz has said that the dialogues with political parties are aimed at establishing a "democratic state".

"For the last 53 years, the people have carried the aspiration for democracy. These discussions aim to pave the way towards the realisation of that aspiration so that together, we can build a truly democratic state," he said on Monday.

Riaz made the remarks in his opening speech during a dialogue with Gono Odhikar Parishad at the LD Hall of the National Parliament.

Calling for unity on state reform efforts, he said: "Everyone must continue their efforts, through democratic practice and unity, and collectively work towards drafting a National Charter."
