Dhaka, Oct. 3 -- Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Niaz Ahmed Khan has expressed his deep condolences after the passing of Language Movement veteran Ahmed Rafiq.

In a statement on Friday, Niaz said that Rafiq had played a remarkable role in the Language Movement and the nation will remember his contributions to it forever.

The vice-chancellor noted that he had written over 100 books of essays, poems, and even a history of the Language Movement. These writings will inspire new generations, he said.

Niaz prayed for his soul's eternal peace and sent his deep condolences to the bereaved family.

Rafiq passed away on Friday while undergoing treatment at a Dhaka hospital. He was 96.
