Dhaka, Jan. 14 -- Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has said that a "truth and reconciliation" or national reconciliation initiative like post-apartheid South Africa is not possible in Bangladesh at this stage, citing the continued denial of crimes by the former regime.

He made the remarks during a meeting with two former US diplomats at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka on Tuesday night.

Details of the meeting were later shared in a press release issued by his office.

Yunus said the environment necessary for such a process has not yet been created, as those accused of past abuses have neither acknowledged wrongdoing nor expressed remorse.
