Dhaka, May 29 -- BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has expressed hope that democracy will soon be restored in Bangladesh.

"We will very soon see democracy reinstated in Bangladesh, let this be our pledge on the death anniversary of Ziaur Rahman," she said.

Khaleda made the remarks on Thursday at an event marking the death anniversary of the party's founder and former president Ziaur Rahman.

She said, "The democracy and sovereignty for which he [Ziaur Rahman] sacrificed his life continues to be restricted at every step."

"Remember, we must honour Zia by following the politics of democracy and development for all, which can resolve all issues," she added, calling on party activists.
