Dhaka, March 2 -- Two cases have been filed after "pirates" attempting to rob a freight ship in Shariatpur's Kirtinasha River were caught and beaten by a mob.

On Saturday, Sub-Inspector Alamgir Hossain of Palong Model Police Station filed the cases -- one for attempted robbery, and the other over illegal weapons, said Md Helal Uddin, chief of the police station.

Six suspected pirates injured in the mob beating have been named in the cases. Another seven to eight unidentified people have also been accused.

The mob beating took place on a bank of the Kirtinasha River in Shariatpur Sadar Upazila's Tentulia on Friday.

According to police, locals infuriated by the robbery attempt caught the robbers as they attempted to flee and beat them. ...
