Dhaka, Nov. 26 -- The low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lanka coast has intensified into a well-marked low.
It is likely to move north-northwestward and intensify into a depression during the next 24 hours.
Fishing boats and trawlers in the north Bay have been advised not to venture into the deep sea until further notice.
The depression over the Strait of Malacca and adjoining area intensified into a cyclonic storm called "Senyar".
Meteorologist Md Tariful Newaz said the storm was centred near Malacca at 6am on Wednesday and may move westward.
The name was proposed by the United Arab Emirates, and Senyar means "lion".
Forecasters said the cyclone is unlikely to hit Bangladesh.
