Dhaka, May 20 -- The High Court is set to deliver its ruling on Wednesday on a petition challenging the swearing-in of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain as mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).

After a hearing on Tuesday, the bench of Justice Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Justice Debasish Roy Choudhury scheduled the ruling for Wednesday afternoon.

Lawyer Mohammad Hossain argued for the petitioner, while AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon and Kaysar Kamal represented Ishraque.

The Election Commission (EC) issued a gazette notification on Apr 27 naming Ishraque as the mayor, based on the ruling of the electoral tribunal.
