Dhaka, June 23 -- A Dhaka court has ordered the freezing of nine bank accounts of former foreign minister Hasan Mahmud and the seizure of a car on charges of illegally acquiring wealth and money laundering.

An order has been simultaneously issued to seize 12 bank accounts of his wife Nuran Fatema.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib gave the order on Monday after hearing two separate applications from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

ACC spokesperson Tanzir Ahmed said Hasan Mahmud has Tk 15.94 million in nine bank accounts. His wife has Tk 16.12 million in 12 bank accounts.

ACC Assistant Director Al-Amin filed the application for the seizure of their bank accounts and cars.
