Dhaka, June 11 -- Commonwealth Secretary General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey has expressed interest in assisting Bangladesh with political reforms ahead of the upcoming general elections.

The secretary general made the remarks during a meeting with Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus in London on Tuesday, according to the state news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).

She said, "If Bangladesh requires support, especially for constitutional reforms, we are ready to cooperate."

Botchwey said supporting member states in establishing democracy and good governance is one of the top priorities for the Commonwealth over the next five years.
