Bangladesh, July 11 -- A contractor company has damaged a 42-inch diameter pipeline while carrying out drilling work without informing the Gas Transmission Company, or GTCL, at the Anwara end of the Karnaphuli River in Chattogram.

The drilling caused a leak in the transmission line on Tuesday afternoon, leading to gas foaming at a depth of 10 metres underground.

Shahnewaz Parvez, managing director of GTCL, told bdnews24.com on Wednesday evening that a Chinese company was conducting work there without coordinating with GTCL.

"We don't know the company's name precisely. The drilling caused a leak in the pipeline. We shut down the line as soon as we realised the issue later that night," he said.
