Dhaka, Dec. 24 -- Chief Advisor's Special Assistant Khuda Baksh Chowdhury, the former police chief who oversaw the home ministry, has resigned.

The Cabinet Division issued a notification on the matter Wednesday night, a development also confirmed by Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.

It remains unclear when Khuda Baksh tendered his resignation.

He was appointed on Nov 10 last year as one of three special assistants with the rank of state minister.

Following the assassination of Inqilab Moncho Convenor Sharif Osman bin Hadi, calls grew for Home Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and Khuda Baksh to stand down.

Several media outlets reported possible reshuffles within the interim cabinet.
