Dhaka, Nov. 18 -- A Chhatra Dal leader has been stabbed to death in Barishal over a dispute that began during a "sweet distribution" programme following the announcement of a death sentence against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
The incident took place in front of Agarpur Halima Mannan Hospital in Babuganj on Monday evening, police said.
The deceased, 30-year-old Rabiul Islam, was the son of Mizanur Rahman Hawlader Dulal of Agarpur village. He was the vice-president of the Jahangirnagar Union Chhatra Dal.
Sub Inspector Delwar Hossain, chief of the Agarpur police camp in Babuganj, said: "The Chhatra Dal leaders and activists were distributing sweets. They got into an argument over eating sweets. As a result, Rabiul was stabbed."
