Dhaka, May 18 -- Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activists have staged a two-hour sit-in by blocking the Shahbagh intersection protesting against what they called negligence in the investigation and demanding the arrest of the main accused in the killing of its Dhaka University (DU) leader Shahriar Alam Shammo.

They gathered at the Shahbagh intersection around 4pm on Sunday, leading to severe traffic congestion in and around the area.

The traffic began to ease after the protesters left the spot around 6pm.

Earlier, Chhatra Dal General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir said Shammo was killed in a similar manner as Primeasia University student Zahidul Islam Parvez. The murder case has been awaiting trial.
