Dhaka, June 18 -- India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah declined the opportunity to lead the Test side, citing concerns over workload management, the 31-year-old has said.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had considered Bumrah as a potential successor to Rohit Sharma, who stepped down from Test captaincy in May.
After Rohit retired, the board appointed Shubman Gill as India's new Test captain for the upcoming five-match series against England, with Bumrah also in contention for the role.
However, Bumrah requested the board not to appoint him, saying he could not commit to the demands of leading the side, ESPNcricinfo reported.
