Bangladesh, Aug. 13 -- BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has gone to Bangkok for a follow-up for his eye surgery.

Fakhrul left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a Thai Airways flight at 10:45am on Wednesday. His wife Rahat Ara Begum accompanied him.

BNP Standing Committee Member Prof AZM Zahid Hossain said, "The secretary general had surgery on his retina. He went to Bangkok for a follow-up today."

''He was scheduled to go on Aug 8. However, he went today as there were some party programmes around then. We hope that if all goes well, he will return home on Aug 19."

The BNP secretary general had an eye surgery done at the Rutnin Eye Hospital in Bangkok on May 14.
