Dhaka, Feb. 16 -- The BNP has assured that effective measures will be taken to stop post-election violence, National Citizen Party (NCP) leader Akhter Hossen has said.

He said the pledge was a step towards restoring political stability after the polls.

Akhter made the remarks while speaking after a courtesy meeting between BNP chief and prime minister-designate Tarique Rahman and NCP Convenor Nahid Islam, held following the BNP's landslide victory in the Feb 12 elections.

Tarique visited Nahid's Bailey Road residence on Sunday night, where discussions covered politics, the July Uprising, reforms and the post-election situation, according to Akhter.

He described the visit as an expression of political courtesy.
