Dhaka, Oct. 17 -- BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called the signing of the July Charter a "new chapter" in Bangladesh's political history and a step towards a stronger democracy.
Speaking to reporters at the South Plaza of the parliament on Friday, he said interim-government commissions had "worked hard for almost eight months" and that "with the signing of this Charter, they have begun a new chapter".
He thanked Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus, political parties, and the National Consensus Commission for their roles.
Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, who led BNP's engagement with the National Consensus and reform commissions, described the signing as "historic".
