Bangladesh, Sept. 1 -- The BNP has cancelled the founding anniversary rally the party scheduled on Tuesday, saying the decision was taken in consideration of the traffic congestion and public inconvenience the event could cause.

It decided to organise a voluntary canal and drains cleaning drive by the Dhaka Metropolitan North and South units of the BNP.

On Monday, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the cancellation of the rally and the new programme in a video message.

He said, ''We have made some changes in our programme, especially in Dhaka. You are aware that we scheduled a rally tomorrow (Tuesday) but we have cancelled it now."
