Dhaka, May 13 -- The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has taken as many as 59 people, including women and children, into custody while they were trying to enter Bangladesh from India through the Maheshpur Upazila border in Jhenaidah.

They were caught in an operation near the border from dawn until dusk on Monday, the Maheshpur-58 BGB Battalion said in a statement.

The BGB said they conducted the raid after a tip-off about the intrusion from India. Among the detainees, 20 were held from Majhipara of Shyamkur village, 13 from Khushalpur BOP area, 14 from Pipulbaria village of Benipur border, five from Hudapara village of Bagadanga BOP and seven from Shyamkur village of Laraighat BOP.
