Dhaka, Jan. 15 -- The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has removed M Najmul Islam from his position as chairman of the Finance Committee.

The BCB says the decision to remove him from the post was made in the larger interest of Bangladesh's top cricketing body after Najmul's remarks on cricketers sparked widespread backlash.

The decision was announced at a press conference on Thursday.

A statement by the board said, "The BCB announces that after reviewing recent events and in the larger interest of the organisation, President Aminul Islam has relieved Najmul Islam from the post of chairman of the Finance Committee.
