Dhaka, Nov. 29 -- A Bangladeshi man has been shot dead by India's Border Security Force (BSF) near the Chuadanga border, according to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

The incident occurred at 5pm on Saturday near pillar No. 70 of the Goyeshpur border, said Lt Col Rafiqul Alam, camp commander of Moheshpur 58 BGB in Jhenaidah.

The dead has been identified as Shahidul Islam from Jibannagar Upazila.

The BGB said Shahidul was among 10-12 people from Goyeshpur and nearby villages who went to India to bring in drugs. While returning in the afternoon, they were chased by BSF personnel.

Everyone else managed to escape, but Shahidul allegedly attacked the BSF with a sharp weapon.
