Dhaka, March 30 -- Bangladesh will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest festival for Muslim devotees, on Monday as the moon for the Islamic month of Shawwal has been sighted.
After a meeting at the conference room of the Islamic Foundation, led by Religious Affairs Advisor AFM Khalid Hossain, the National Moon Sighting Committee announced the end of the month of Ramadan on Sunday evening.
Muslims celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr after a month of fasting in Ramadan. This year, however, Muslims have fasted for 29 days as Ramadan began on Mar 2.
Usually, Saudi Arabia and some other Middle Eastern countries celebrate Eid a day before Bangladesh as the moon is sighted there early. Saudi Arabia celebrated Eid on Sunday this year.
