Dhaka, May 24 -- Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur has announced that new banknotes, free of any individual's portrait, will be released ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.

The government has decided to issue redesigned Tk 1,000, Tk 50, and Tk 20 notes, which will showcase images of mosques, temples, historic landmarks, and natural landscapes instead, he said at an event on Saturday.

"Three new notes will be introduced to the market very soon. You'll see them before Eid. No individual's portrait will appear on them."

"They will feature our natural scenery and iconic heritage structures," he added.
