Dhaka, Jan. 7 -- A cold wave is sweeping across four divisions and 12 districts of the country, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

The winter chill has set in during the first month of the new year as Naogaon's Badalgachi recorded the lowest temperature of the season - 6.7 degrees Celsius - in the 24 hours to Wednesday morning.

Meteorologist AKM Nazmul Haque told bdnews24.com on Wednesday afternoon, "A mild to moderate cold wave is blowing over the Tangail, Faridpur, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Kishoreganj, Manikganj, Narsingdi, Narayanganj, Netrokona, Moulvibazar, Lakshmipur and Cumilla districts as well as the Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna and Barishal divisions and it may continue."
