Dhaka, June 23 -- Two more people have died of dengue in the past 24 hours, taking the tally of deaths from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease to 34 this year.

On Monday, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in its regular bulletin on Monday that 392 patients were admitted to hospitals across the country in the 24-hour period to 8am -- marking the highest single-day hospitalisation count.

With the latest figures, total dengue hospitalisations this year have risen to 8,150.

Of the latest fatalities, one patient was under treatment in Dhaka South City Corporation and the other in the Barishal Division.

Barishal also recorded the highest number of new admissions in a day, with 126 patients hospitalised.
