Dhaka, June 24 -- Bangladesh has recorded 394 dengue-related hospital admissions in the past 24 hours, logging the highest single-day cases of the mosquito-borne disease this year.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the latest surge brings the total number of hospitalised dengue patients this year to 8,544.

No new deaths were reported in the past day, with the death toll unchanged at 34 this year.

On Monday, as many as 392 people were hospitalised.

Among the new patients, the majority were from Barishal Division, with 157 admissions, followed by 92 from Dhaka city, 35 from the rest of Dhaka Division, 58 from Chattogram, 44 from Rajshahi, and eight from Khulna.
