Dhaka, Nov. 21 -- The death toll from Bangladesh's strongest earthquake in decades has risen to 10, with the number of injured surpassing 600.

The quake struck at 10:38am on Friday, measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale, with the epicentre in Madhabdi of Narsingdi near Dhaka.

The 26-second tremor triggered widespread panic as people rushed out of homes and buildings, after which reports of casualties and structural damage began to surface.

According to the latest information, four people died in Dhaka, five in Narsingdi, and one in Narayanganj.

Dhaka district authorities said 59 patients were treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), while 13 others received care at Sir Salimullah Mediacal College Mitford Hospital.
