Dhaka, Oct. 25 -- A low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal has intensified, with the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) warning it may develop into a cyclone by Sunday.

The system has remained over the same area while moving west-northwest on Saturday evening.

Meteorologist Md Omar Faruk told bdnews24.com on Saturday night, "The depression could turn into a deep depression by midnight. By Sunday afternoon, it may intensify into a cyclone."

He said the cyclone is unlikely to have a significant impact on Bangladesh.

"Its effects over the sea will be minimal, but the western regions of the country may see scattered rainfall due to its influence on land," he added.
