Dhaka, Oct. 28 -- London's Steven Powles KC of Doughty Street Chambers has submitted an Article 15 communication to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court on behalf of the Awami League, requesting an investigation into alleged retaliatory violence amounting to crimes against humanity in Bangladesh.

The communication seeks ICC action over "killings, unlawful imprisonment, and persecution" of individuals allegedly associated with, or perceived to be affiliated with, Sheikh Hasina's former government following nationwide protests of July 2024, according to a statement from the UK lawyer.
