Dhaka, Feb. 18 -- Police have recovered the beheaded body of an Awami League leader, whose hands and feet were tied, in Parbatipur Upazila of Dinajpur.

Parbatipur Railway Police Station chief, or OC, Fakhrul Islam said the body was found on Tuesday morning near the railway tracks at Haldibari Rail Gate.

The victim, Bharat Chandra, 50, was a resident of Kalikapur village in Chandipur Union.

His younger son Ripon Chandra said, "My father was the organising secretary of the Chandipur Union Awami League and worked as a wayman for the railway."

According to Ripon, his father left home for Parbatipur town at around 10:30am on Monday, but his mobile phone had been switched off since the evening.
