Dhaka, Feb. 21 -- Jamaat-e-Islami has announced its new central leadership for the 2026-2028 term, reappointing Mia Golam Parwar as secretary general and naming newly elected lawmaker ATM Azharul Islam as the first Nayeb-e-Ameer.
The announcement came following a virtual meeting of the party's central Majlis-e-Shura on Friday, chaired by the party chief Shafiqur Rahman, who recently took office as the Leader of the Opposition in parliament.
Azharul's appointment marks his return to a top organisational post after a 13-year hiatus spent in prison.
He was the party's assistant secretary general when arrested in August 2012. He was released last year after being acquitted of war crimes charges following the fall of Awami League government...
