Dhaka, Nov. 16 -- A group of unidentified people have carried out vandalism and assault after breaking into an Awami League leader's residence in Rajshahi city in the dead of night.

Motihar Police chief Abdul Malek said the incident occurred around midnight on Saturday at the Kazla Notun Bou Bazar area at the residence of Khaled Hasan Biplob, the organising secretary of the district unit of the banned AL.

The attackers allegedly smashed a television, refrigerator, air conditioner, and other furniture during the attack.

Khaled's father, Helal Uddin, 62, was confined to a room during the attack, while his mother, Khaleda Begum, 53, was beaten.
