Dhaka, March 22 -- National Citizens Party (NCP) Convenor Nahid Islam has said the army or any other state institution has no "authority to propose or make decisions" about politics.

Speaking at an emergency press conference on Friday night, he said: "The matter of banning the Awami League and elections is a political decision.

"It is for the government, the people, and the existing political parties to decide."

He added, "Political matters must be resolved democratically, and we seek to move forward through a democratic process."

Recent media reports suggest efforts-both domestically and internationally-to reorganise the Awami League with its "refined" leaders.
